Martin Partington: Spotlight on the Justice System

Keeping the English Legal System under review

About this blog

with 3 comments

This blog is a supplement to my book Introduction to the English Legal System the 15th edition of which was published by Oxford University Press in May 2021. See link at the side of this page.
The blog has a number of aims.

First, it offers you my personal views on key developments in the English justice system.

Second, it highlights issues which other media may not have picked up.

Third, it tries to ensure that the book is kept up-to-date; important developments which have taken place since the book was published are noted here.

Finally, and very important, it provides you with the opportunity to comment on the legal system and how it works. I look forward to hearing from you.

  1. Professor Partington,

I stumbled upon your blog by chance when I googled your name after reading one of your articles in the U of L study pack for Common law. As an external student who does not live in the UK and not having internet access at home, it is rather difficult to keep abreast of current affairs.Your blog has been a immensely helpful in enabling me to gain a fair understanding of how recent reforms are in reality affecting the British legal system. Thanks very much and looking forward to listening to more of your podcasts (Which have made my otherwise dreadfully boring commutes an interesting learning experience).

    Best and many thanks,

  2. Dear Sir

I am currently going to appear in the AS exams and Law is one of my subjects so I have ‘Introduction To The English Legal System (2012-2013)’ book which is highly helpful but I just came to know that you have published a more updated version of this particular book. I just want your kind assistance regarding an issue that I have been worrying on about for days! Do I really need to buy the new version? wouldn’t the 2012-2013 version do the trick in exams? I don’t have much time to read another book for more months due to the fact that I have to solve past papers and do the research on the law.
Hope you’ll reply to my question real soon and thank you for making this book

    • I think you must ask your teacher/tutor about this. The developments in the English Legal System are very rapid so that I do new editions to keep readers up to date. I also write this blog to help readers keep up to date. Each chapter has blog entries that can be found here. But as I dont know the syllabus for your exams, this is a question you really must discuss with your teacher. Perhaps you can borrow the latest edition from a library?
